'
David Bowie

David Bowie is God. Not sure if anything needs adding to that statement. '
US Navy cadets

This is quite possibly the single-best thing ever. Once a year, a little bit of US naval tradition is played out in Annapolis, the capital of Maryland.

Wee aren\'t too what it is all about, to be honest with you. There is something about trying to retrieve a hat that has been placed on top of a stone monument that has been coated in grease, and doing it as quickly as possible... but all wee know is that the end result is a manscape of semi-naked, dripping wet navy cadets, all around 18 years old, covered in grease, romping about together for no particular reason.

Simply marvellous.
',
'
Firefox

Firefox is the best web browser in the world and no Mozilla did not pay us to say that. If you are using Internet Explorer right now, don\'t. It is both horracious and antastic.

Not only is Firefox totally customisable in terms of both appearance and functionality, it is also fast, very secure, and very clever. Any new feature Microsoft adds to the latest version of IE is invariably something that has already long been available to Firefox users.

Possibly the single greatest thing about it, and something you will never get from IE is that you have the power to strip web-pages of offensive or irritating objects such as adverts so that they never load again on any site you visit: you can "blacklist" internet advertising agencies completely. Nice. It\'s all totally free, too, so what are you waiting for? Get it now! ',
'
Gibson SG

Our favourite guitar ever. It is just amazing. Most people seem to prefer the Les Paul, but we disagree. Introduced in 1961, the SG was the Les Paul\'s successor and wee think it was an evolutionary leap forwards.

With its aged mahogany body, you still get the sound quality you\'d expect of a Gibson, but the twin "Devil\'s horns" cutaway design results in a much lighter guitar. They also provide you with far greater access to the upper frets - not to mention making for an oh-so-very sexy body...
',
'
Eddie Izzard

A self-styled "Revolutionary Liberal" and "action transvestite", the world\'s most famous Bloke in a Dress, he is without a doubt our favourite stand-up comedian. Totally bonkers and rib-achingly funny.

From his impression of Christopher Walken doing Shakespeare to his relentless and hilarious deconstruction of Christianity, his humour tickles us immensely.

Also, if you want a really good chuckle, check out this...
',
'
Audacity

Audacity is a totally fabulous piece of open-source software - which you can download completely free - that allows you to record, edit and mix music.

Its really cool and so very easy to use. It displays any piece of music as a visual representation of a soundwave that you can then manipulate: increase the volume, add a fade-in or fade-out, split it up into separate files... and tons more. So very cool. Enjoy ;-).
',
'
Red Wine

One of man\'s finest achievements. '
Amsterdam

Wee LOVE Amsterdam! Ok, yes - partly, it is because there are coffee shops where you can go and have a relaxing smoke any time you like, all without experiencing any malfortuous acopalypses, but there is far more to it than that.

It is just stunning: a cobweb of beautiful, old, narrow streets separated by canals. It is also largely car-free: everyone is on bikes, or on foot. The lack of the usual background roar of engines is one of the best things about the place. During the day, you can take in a few museums, or walk through the park, frequent a coffee shop or two then hit the shops for some decent fashion clothes.

Add to this great nightlife, good restaurants and one of the best manscapes on Earth and there you have it. Bloody marvellous.
',
/*10*/'
Blur

With the exception of David Bowie, who has been on our stereo since early childhood, Blur represent our longest musical obsession. Wee were fans from their pre-fame days to their peak in the mid 90s with their invention of Britpop and beyond. Their songs are intelligent lyrically and musically, the band are masters of experimentation.

Wee have seen them play in concert several times and rate them as one of the most engaging and atmospheric live bands ever. Wee were very saddened in 2003 when the genius Graham Coxon quit and they split up.

Yes, much of Graham\'s solo work is excellent - in particular, Kiss of the Morning, and especially his incredible masterpiece, The Spinnging Top - and yes, Blur\'s sans-Coxon album, Think Tank is good... but it\'s just not the same.

Wee were INCREDIBLY pleased when Blur reformed in 2009 to play a number of gigs, including Hyde Park (which wee went to). Wee really hope they decide to get back in the studio to make another album too!',
'
Withnail & I

Possibly the finest film ever. If you haven\'t seen it yet, do so - today if possible: it is just fabulous.

Richard E Grant is phenomenal as the eponymous, drug-addled and insane out-of-work actor, with Paul McGann providing a fitting dead-pan side-kick. Script-wise, it has to be one of the most quotable films ever: pure genius. Some of our favourite lines are included in our wee quote thing on this site.

The show is of course stolen by Richard Giriffth\'s superb performance as the eccentric and predatory Uncle Monty: "There is, you\'ll agree, a certain \'je ne sais quoi\' oh, so very special about a firm, young carrot..." Genius. Alongside the humour, the poignant theme of growing up and growing apart, set at the end of the 60s, makes this both a touching and hilarious film.',
'
New York, New York

Wee are urbanites at heart. Wee aren\'t so keen on how badly the average city dweller tends to treat his or her fellow man (especially after 10 years of life in London) but this aside, wee really love the pace and energy of urban life. London is mostly a great place to be (ignoring a few fundamentals like the weather, the transport and other Londoners) and wee still get a small thrill every time we see the city lit up at night from one of the Thames bridges.

We think New York is far superior though: it is the ultimate city on Earth. It has a buzz to it that wee\'ve never felt anywhere else. For the finest food, bars, clubs, sights, shopping and attractive people, New York has it all. It is insane and wee love it.
',
'
Devon Rex Cats

The ultimate pet, in our opinion. Variously known as pixie cats, alien cats, or monkey cats, they are an endless source of fun. Wee tend to refer to them as padomocas - parrot-dog-monkey-cats. They love to play and will often engage in games of fetch with humans. Their desire to be with and play with humans is far more canine than feline, and their love of riding on the sholders of their owners accounts for the parrot part. And as to the monkey part, they are the most mischievous little critters you will ever meet, climbing into the unlikliest of places.

A handful at times, maybe, they are nonetheless the loveliest and most faithful of companions and certainly the most tender and sweet breed of cat you will ever encounter. Wee acquired 2 Devon Rex brothers, Leon (Smeagol) and Louis (Sausage) in February 2010 and wee constantly count ourselves as blessed. See them in action as 4-month old kittens on a You Tube video. Wee challenge you not to fall in love...
',
'
Stella Artois

King of Lagers, often dubbed "wife-beater", it stands in a league of its own in. Officially 5.4% ABV, but wee all know they put something else in it: some special magic fairy dust or something that transforms it from a mere premium lager into a unique, whacky and lethal drink.

What the Belgians don\'t know about beer wouldn\'t fill a matchbox. Great, great fun! But do handle with care...
',
'
"Red" Ken Livingstone

Our only political hero. His passion for the city of London singles him out as one of the rare few MPs who clearly actually cares. In his 2 separate terms as Mayor of London, punctuated by an under-handed and politically motivated 14-year exile enforced by the Iron Lady herself, his actions demonstrate a person more interested in improving London than furthering his own career.

Ken defied the then-Tory government time and again when he perceived the harm of their policies, resulting in Thatcher taking the ridiculous measure of disbanding the entire Greater London Council just to be rid of him. This was a damaging move for London, and was ultimately reversed by Labour in 1997. Ken was the obvious choice to resume the role of Mayor, and the people of London agreed. Many of his measures in that time, notably the introduction of the Congestion Charge, were understandably unpopular, but history will record their necessity and their positive effects. Here\'s to Ken for Mayor in 2012 - Bojo must go!
',
'
The Republic Campaign

As the marvellous Eddie Izzard eloquently put it, "The monachy system has, gradually, over time, fallen apart. In Britain, it has stayed together, while falling apart at the same time". Quite. The concept of hereditary privilege is simply anachronistic and innapropriate in modern times. Wee have heard many arguments to support the monarchy and all of them lack substance and evidence. The monarchy is NOT good for tourism, the Windsors (as the recent Wikileaks cables proved) are NOT effective ambassadors for trade, and they cost the UK £150,000,000 a year. For one single family. Why are we still tolerating this?

The Republic Campaign believes Britain should abolish its monarchy and establish a repubican style government - and wee are in total agreement. Please read more about them on their website and ideally, join them - they need your support!
',
'
London

Londinium! England\'s ultimate City, a country-within-a-country and a marvel to behold. Yes, it is massively overcrowded - so much so that its infrastructure really can\'t cope any more - and yes, most Londoners are rude, mistrustful and selfish, but even with these negatives, she is a truly astounding place to live.

Wee lasted a full decade in the Big Smoke before the sirens, chavs, crowds and over-priced and ill-functioning pubic transport finally got the better of us and wee ran away to rural France. Looking back though, what wee remember most is the humbling majesty of the Thames, the grandeur of Westminster, cultural treats such as the Tate Modern or the V&A Museum, the excitement of Soho, the sumptous restaurants of all possible types, the beauty of Hyde Park and the incessent background buzz of a place truly alive. The jewel in Perfidious Albion\'s crown. Look after her, you Londoners: she is precious.
',
'
Amelie

Watch this film. Right now. It is 2 hours of pure magic: funny, endearing, charming, sad, beautiful and entertaining. And for all you folk who refuse to watch any foreign-language film that has subtitles, trust us: within 5 minutes you won\'t even notice.

A wittily narrated love story, it tells the tale of a lonely and isolated girl whose upbringing is defined by a need for companionship and love that is constantly denied by over-protective parents.

Unable to forge meaningful relationships herself, she occupies herself by attempting to bring love and happiness to the lives of others, until she too finally finds love. A real feel-good story, but not in any way cheesy. Watch it now.',

Every time the clouds part and wee can feel the sunshine on our face, wee smile a little.

Nearly all life on Earth is dependent on the sun for survival, so it is no surprise that we enjoy it when the sun is out. What is surprising is just how much of a difference it makes - to us anyway. Everything touched by sunlight looks better, healthier, more alive. Complete happiness for us is lying in the sunshine on a summer\'s day under a clear blue sky, soaking in its rays. It feels restorative, healing and comforting. Vive le soleil!
',

New York, New York

Le clou du spectacle est sans doute le performance superbe de Richard Giriffth, qui joue le rôle de Uncle Monty - l\'oncle excentrique et prédateur de Withnail. Ainsi que l\'humour, les thèmes poignantes de grandir et de se perdre de vue, qui se déroulent à Londres a la fin des années 60s, vous donnent un film touchant, et aussi marrant.');
